listen:
crisp inside a label
she forms
new mirrors
blackening edges
borrowing foam
weakness dripping
that old, impregnating
cold.
inside her,
the stone wind
can it rise?
can it find footholes
in silence,
a faraway blanket,
rhymes placating sins,
witches grasping in and in?
light forms new words
trooping fellowship
around her neat bones.
and water and sound
prickle out
of nature's eyes.
oh listen, bilge of wishes
cramming down
a heart that won't start!
